Priyanto: We Must Save the Indonesian Palm Oil Industry

Harian Press. The government, the House of Representatives, and all elements of society who care about the palm oil industry must show nationalism and its patriotism is facing various pressures of Indonesian anti-palm oil foreign NGOs. Because their actions to carry out negative campaigns and black campaigns will destroy the survival of tens of millions of farmers, workers and oil palm entrepreneurs in Indonesia.

As stated by the General Chairman of the Instiper Family Alumni Center in Yogyakarta, Priyanto PS, who works in the oil palm sector, told reporters in Pontianak, Friday (11/23).

It is said, as the Instiper Yogyakarta alumni family of 14,000 members of which 60% are more engaged in palm oil, condemning the actions taken by Greenpeace. Because it will have a direct impact on the palm oil industry and at the same time harass the Indonesian government.

It is said that the palm oil industry that operates always adheres to government regulations, and has had a positive impact on Indonesia's economic development. But unfortunately the condition cannot be accepted by all the international community. Because the new "occupation" that was intensively carried out by foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Greenpeace NGOs actually threatened Indonesia's sovereignty. They take advantage of the sluggish global economic situation which has a direct impact on declining commodity market demand, including palm oil.

It was said, the sluggish global economic situation was exacerbated by the emergence of a Greenpeace NGO campaign that attacked Indonesian palm oil commodities. This has the potential to become a new "invader" in the economic field in Indonesia.

It should be noted that as the largest producer of global palm oil, Indonesia has an important role in supplying palm oil needs in the international market. Where the supply of 60% of global palm oil comes from oil palm plantations operating in Indonesia.

In addition, more than 20 million Indonesians depend their lives on palm oil produced through the best and most sustainable cultivation. Palm oil is also the only world vegetable oil, which is successfully cultivated in a sustainable manner, making it a renewable and environmentally friendly product.

According to him, the welfare of rural communities is greatly helped by the development of oil palm plantations. It is said that because the existence of oil palm plantations has a very large contribution to the growth of the village economy through the growth of businesses and services, as well as markets in the countryside.

"In addition to economic problems, the harmonization of human life and the surrounding environment is also maintained and complementary. Because oil palm plantations have become a source of life for the community, "Priyanto said.

In addition, palm oil is also the largest source of foreign exchange for Indonesia. Where more than US $ 20 billion or around Rp. 300 trillion per year, Indonesia's foreign exchange comes from the trade in palm oil products and derivatives, which are exported to various countries in the world.

Now it can be said that more than 100 countries in the world depend on the supply of palm oil from Indonesia. The large contribution of palm oil supply from Indonesia is very influential on the sustainability of the global palm oil trade.

But now, various actions that do not support the progress of oil palm plantations in Indonesia have always been carried out unilaterally by foreign NGOs and Greenpeace NGOs, as well as other anti-palm NGOs. Even Greenpeace NGOs take action or campaigns that reject the existence of Indonesian palm oil.

The campaign carried out by Greenpeace can actually be considered as an insult and insult to the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Where Indonesia always upholds the sovereignty and independence of nations in the world.

"Greenpeace NGOs are entering the territory of the Republic of Indonesia sovereignty and blocking the trade in Indonesian palm oil. This has clearly harassed the sovereignty of the Indonesian people, "said Priyanto.

It is said that because the palm oil industry operating in Indonesia, always adheres to the government regulations that apply in Indonesia. But the Greenpeace NGO, harassed the dignity of the Indonesian people, with various campaigns about environmental damage and also human rights issues.

According to him, the government and the people of Indonesia have high seriousness in managing oil palm plantations through the mandatory implementation of Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). But the moratorium on new permits and the control of forest and land fires (karhutla) and various other government regulations implemented and issued by the government seemed meaningless.

This happened because NGOs anti-palm oil, Greenpeace and its cronies did not like Indonesian palm oil. They carried out various actions which tended to ignore the sovereignty of the Indonesian nation. They always campaigned for black environmental issues to damage Indonesian palm oil, without any action and
